K-FACTOR Chart & Table
A useful Chart & Table to help antenna builders determine acurate
Element Length Adjustments for various diameter tube sizes
without all the mathwork normally involved.
I apologize ahead of time for the extreme WIDTH of this page
but it's necessary to have an easy to read and printable table.
Due to the low number of hits on this particular page, rather than
spending the time necessary rebuilding the Table into an XHTML
table format, which would widen it even further than it already
is, I will maintain its original ASCII format and layout that
can be printed out in landscape mode on a single sheet of paper.
Fellow Antenna Designers
I have received many requests for the formula to determine the K-Factor used as
a multiplier when constructing half-wave antennas. Although this formula is
located in several ARRL publications, usage of same has not been defined very
clearly in any of the publications.
Because of the unwieldy size of the numbers involved, and the complexities
of determining whether you have arrived at the correct answer, I felt a simple
easy to read chart, showing the ratio numbers would be more beneficial and
versatile than simply giving you the actual K-Factor multiplier which would
then need to be adjusted for your particular antenna design.
The following chart must be viewed with your word wrap turned off or
downloaded as a text file and viewed on a simple non-word wrapping text
reader like the Windows Notepad program.
The numbers used in the calculations for the diameter of the inch sizes
shown below were the exact decimal OD measurments converted to meters
as required by the equation used.
The MHz increments selected were approximately the center of each portion of
each band in common usage. For example, if you have designed your
antenna for the voice portion of the 20 meter band the number across
from the 14.29 MHz increment and down from the pipe diameter selected
should be utilized to determine the ratio to apply to your K-Factor chart.
For those of you who do not have access to a K-Factor Chart, following the
ratio chart will be a text version of the K-Factor.

THE FOLLOWING IS A TEXT VERSION OF THE K-FACTOR CHART
Please realize that the K-Factor chart is a sine wave and that the numbers
given are merely points along this curve, as close as I could estimate
by visual observation of the graph.
